Frederick Hiatt

Frederick William Hiatt was born October 1863 in Sommerville, Massachusetts. His father William Hiatt was from England and immigrated to Boston. His mother Margaret Ann Taylor was born in Nova Scotia and she met and married her husband in Boston.

Frederick had a younger brother Winfield. Winfield was 10 years younger than Frederick. He never married and had various jobs throughout his life including as an actor and theatrical manager.

Frederick completed up to the first year of high school.

Frederick grew up in Boston and found work as clerk and later as a bookkeeper.

By 1893 Frederick left his parents’ home to live on his own.

He married Elizabeth Harper on November 4, 1893. They were married in Boston. The marriage was registered in Wakefield where the bride lived and in Boston where the groom lived. Frederick at the time of his marriage was a clerk working in Boston. From a city directory at that time he was a bookkeeper.

The year after their marriage a first child was born in Wakefield, Massachusetts – Ruth Frances. The next year Edith Kingdon was born followed two years later Albert Ernest. Their fourth child, Frank Cyril, was born in Melrose, Massachusetts, in 1901.

By 1900 the couple was living in Wakefield, Massachusetts, at 44 Nahant Street. He owns this house and has a mortgage.

By 1910 the family is living at 29 High Street, Malden, Massachusetts. There is a mortgage on the house and by 1920 the mortgage is paid off.

Frederick died at 29 High Street on July 7, 1941 at 8:30 PM. The immediate cause of death as acute myocarditis (heart failure). He had this since July 3, 1941. This was due to arteriosclerosis (hardening of the arteries) since 1932. He also had carcinoma (cancer) of the gall bladder and liver. He had this since 1941.

He is buried in Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose. The date of burial was July 10, 1941.

From his death certificate his occupation was a retired wool manager and he was in the wool business. Previous records had listed him as a bookkeeper in the warehouse industry.
